I am thrilled to introduce the hosts for Season 3: Dylan Wiliam, Doug Lemov, and Natalie Wexler. Across six 30-minute episodes, these curriculum and literacy experts explore what happens in the brain when we read and write, connect that with literacy curriculum and instruction, and share insights from researchers and educators using science-informed approaches in their schools.

“Literacy and the Science of Learning” debuts on Tuesday, June 24, with new episodes released each week. Each of our hosts has written a new book on the subject and draws on that work to connect cognitive science with actionable insights for policymakers, education leaders, and classroom teachers.
- In episodes 1 and 2, Dylan Wiliam goes deep on cognitive load, and how strategies like interleaving and spacing can boost long-term memory and student learning. (Dylan’s recent book is Developing Curriculum for Deep Thinking: The Knowledge Revival.)
- Episodes 3 and 4 are hosted by Doug Lemov, who discusses fluency and the value in reading whole books, including how reading books together—as opposed to text excerpts on a screen—fosters empathy and connectedness. (Doug’s upcoming book is The Teach Like A Champion Guide to the Science of Reading.)
- In episodes 5 and 6, Natalie Wexler dives into the power of writing to support comprehension, knowledge retention, and critical thinking, and shares specific strategies that support students in thinking and communicating clearly about what they’re learning. (Natalie’s new book is Beyond the Science of Reading.)
We are so excited for the return of the Knowledge Matters Podcast! This also marks the return of Natalie Wexler as our host. She helmed our first season, “Reading Comprehension Revisited,” which was downloaded 250,000 times!
Don’t miss the start of Season 3 on Tuesday, June 24. And in the week ahead, listen to the trailer, subscribe for updates, and get ready for a fascinating journey from cognitive science to the classroom.
